Alison Gopnik

Developmental psychologist Alison Gopnik is an expert on language development, causal learning, and cognition. She is the author of “he Gardener and the Carpenter: What the New Science of Child Development Tells Us About the Relationship Between Parents and Children” and “The Philosophical Baby: What Children’s Minds Tell Us About Truth, Love, and the Meaning of Life,” among several other works. Professor Gopnik is a pschology professor and affiliate professor in philosophy at the prestigious USC Berkeley, and has been published in the Scientific American, Science, and the New York Times.

Nancy Carlsson-Paige

Dr. Carlsson-Page is a professor emerita of Lesley University. She has authored and published numerous books, articles, and editorial pieces, particularly on the subject of technologies integration in classrooms along with the intersection of education and child development. Dr. Carlsson was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences in 2013, and both speaks on and writes about social justice and equity in education.

Christia S. Brown Ph.D.

Dr. Brown specializes in the study of gender in children and the impact of enforced gender roles on children and adolescents. Her groundbreaking book, “Parenting Beyond Pink and Blue: Raising Kids Free of Gender Stereotypes,” has been featured on a number of media platforms ranging from radio to television, and has received brilliant reviews from experts and parents alike. Dr. Brown serves as a professor of developmental psychology at the University of Kentucky.

Harold S. Koplewicz M.D.

One of the founders of the Child Mind Institute, Dr. Koplewicz has written and published numerous pieces on the subject of child development. He has also received a number of awards for his work in child development, including the 2009 American Psychiatric Association McAlpin Award and the 2010 American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry William Schonfeld Award for his achievements and contributions to the field. Board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, he resides in New York City.

Jean Piaget

While Jean Piaget is no longer among the living, his work in child development and early cognition still informs modern child development studies and educational practice. Piaget’s studies introduced the concept of schemas – clustered sets of objects or concepts that people use to understand, study, and interact with the world around them. Piaget postulated that schema development was critical to early childhood learning and development, and this theory is still actively used today in the context of early childhood education as well as child and adolescent education.
