1.  The Rule Of Law  by Tom Bingham

This is a shorter read but it comes packed with useful information. This is a law based book that you will likely hear about at some point during your education or your time practicing. Whether you are working in the private sector or the public sector, this book makes all the difference in how you see law and your clients.

2.  Letters to a Law Student  by Nicholas McBride

This is a great read for anyone who is about starting out in law school or has just started. It is also a great gift to give to a student who has recently graduated with their undergraduate degree and will be moving on. It provides insight about the experience of a law student, the lifestyle you go through, the success and the rewards. Not to mention ways to stay sane during such a hectic time in your life.

3.  Learning the Law  by Glanville Williams and ATH Smith

Glanville Williams was a Welsh legal scholar who passed away back in 1997.  Learning the Law  was his insight into the world of law and this is a newer book that encompasses all of those pearls of wisdom. Williams was very proactive when it came to legalizing abortion and legalizing euthanasia. While his opinions were controversial among many, his insight was helpful to many legal professionals.

4.  What About Law?  by Catherine Barnard

What About Law  is a relatable novel about the field of law thanks to Barnard’s introduction which talks about her first legal experience. She threw a party at her house while her parents were away and she got into some legal trouble. This is an easy to read book that describes various areas of law in thorough detail.

5.  Bleak House  by Charles Dickens

If you are looking for a classic that not only pads your reading list but also helps you in your legal career, you can turn to a Charles Dickens favorite: Bleak House. You might not be aware that Dickens actually worked as a court reporter for four years and he learned a lot that would help him with his writing. Part of Great Expectations was actually inspired by his experiences.

Whether you want to grab a classic novel that has been around for years or you would prefer a non-fiction book that will help shape your career as a law professional after you’ve read it, these are five great reads to consider buying or borrowing. There are many more options as well. You can find a great list on the internet or ask some of your comrades for some of the books that they have found helpful over the years.
